Titan Poker VIP Club

Titan Poker VIP ClubIn April of 2012 Titan Poker introduced significant changes to their VIP program.  Our analysis of the Titan VIP Club – formerly called “Club Titan” – reflects those changes.  In general, the changes were favorable to lower-volume players while the highest-volume players saw a significant reduction in potential value.

We’ll start with a quick overview of the VIP Club levels before moving into a more in-depth analysis of the value players can expect to receive from the new Titan Poker VIP Program.

Five Monthly Levels and One “Annual” Level

There are five basic tiers to the VIP Club at Titan Poker.  Players move up tiers – and maintain their VIP status – by earning specific amounts of  Titan Points within a calendar month.

Monthly Levels

  • Bronze: 0-2000 Titan Points
  • Copper: 2001-2999 Titan Points
  • Silver: 3000-4999 Titan Points
  • Gold: 5000-14999 Titan Points
  • Titanium: 15000 + Titan Points

Your VIP status is determined by either the tier you’ve achieved in the current month or by the tier you achieved in the previous month, which ever is greater.  So, if you earn 2500 Titan Points in May, you will enjoy a minimum status of Copper for both May and June.

Diamond Level

The special level – Diamond – is an annual level that works like this: If you earn at least 1000,000 total Titan Points over the course of three consecutive calendar months (that’s 100k total, not 100k per month) then you are rewarded with automatic Titanium status for the following year – even if you never play a hand of poker.

Difference Between Club Points and Titan Points

This can get a bit confusing, but it doesn’t have to be.  Club Points and Titan Points are earned in parallel – when you pay rake, you earn both Club Points and Titan Points.  Titan Points are used solely to determine your VIP status and are earned at a fixed rate (17 per every $1 paid in tournament fees and $15 for every $1 paid in cash game rake).  Club Points are the points you “spend” on bonuses and tournament tickets in the VIP shop and are awarded at a rate that varies based on your VIP status tier.  More info on that and more follows below …

Benefits of the Different Titan VIP Tiers

There are a few core rewards to the VIP Club at Titan:

  • Club Points Multiplier:  Club Points are the points you spend in the VIP shop or exchange for Monthly Cash.  As you move up tiers, you earn Club Points at a faster rate.
  • Freerolls: Access to more and bigger freerolls rewards those who move up the VIP ladder
  • Gladiator Race: Exclusive $5k monthly rake race for those at the highest tier – Titanium.

As you move up levels, your rewards increase.   The chart below illustrates the different rewards provided to different status tiers:

Titan Poker New VIP Levels

Excluding the additional value from the freerolls and considering only the value of Club Points exchanged for cash, the effective rakeback rate for each VIP level is as follows:

Bronze: 15%
Copper: 18-25%%
Silver: 19.5-25%%
Gold: 22.5-30%%
Titanium: 30-50%

Why does it vary so much? Well for one thing, the point multipliers of the top levels make a big difference, but even the biggest multiplier (2x at VIP Titanium) doesn’t explain the gap between 15% and 50%. The other factor is that Titan has a tiered points exchange rate – the more Titan Points you exchange, the better the rate you receive. The difference in rates can be dramatic, as illustrated by the chart below:

So the combination of a better multiplier and holding on to the points as long as possible is what generates most of the increased value for the top VIP levels (and also accounts for the broad spread in potential value).

Features of the New Titan VIP Club

VIP level updated daily

In most VIP programs, you don’t start to enjoy the benefits of a new VIP tier until the following month – even if you earn all of the points on the first day of the current month.  Titan has added a feature that most players will definitely appreciate: Your VIP status is recalculated daily, so if you hit a new tier mid-month, you immediately start earning the rewards of that tier.

Titan VIP Club – Monthly Cash

This is a new twist apparently designed to provide more rewards to low-stakes and low-volume players.   Bronze-level players automatically have their points (up to the max amount) traded for cash at a rate of 100 points to one dollar (effectively 15% rakeback).  You can receive a maximum of $20 in Monthly Cash each month (2000 points).  You must log in sometime during the first 7 days of the month or you lose the previous month’s bonus.

All other levels can choose to request the Monthly Cash or hold to their points and use them in the VIP store to purchase bonuses / tournament tickets.

Note that monthly cash does require you to “spend” points – they will be deducted from your Club Points balance.  This does not impact your VIP status.

Should I Get Monthly Cash or Shop in the VIP Store?  The VIP store affords better flexibility and slightly better rates at the high end of exchanges for the cash bonuses.   However, as Monthly Cash is capped at $20 per month, it’s hard to make too poor of a decision value-wise, so it really comes down to what you prefer.  Monthly cash is definitely a better value than the low-end bonuses and tournament tokens in the VIP Club store, some of which have effective rakeback value of less than 10%.

Gold Coins at Titan Poker

Gold coins are not part of the VIP program, but are part of the recent rewards overhaul at the site so we’ll discuss them briefly here. Gold Coins are basically an internal currency Titan is using to get players to both promote Titan and to become more involved with playing poekr at Titan. Players can earn gold coins by doing a number of things, including:

  • Making a deposit
  • Liking Titan on Facebook
  • Telling friends about Titan
  • Winning with a full house

It’s difficult to pin down an exact value of the gold coins because of the variable rewards system. You basically exchange your coins for a lottery ticket with a minimum prize value and a maximum potential prize, but Titan does not list probabilities of winning the maximum prize anywhere on site.

Gold coins expire after 12 months OR after 3 months of inactivity.
